I've been determined to get Brick off of an "all mealworm all the time" diet. Results have been spotty...so now I've gone hardcore. Brick doesn't like it. I've presented him with only pellets. He comes up excitedly, sees the pellets and swims away, going into the corner. He's been sulking in the corner (at the bottom) for literally two straight days, refusing to come out... Boss (BP) stays with him for company since they pretty much nest in one area of the tank surrounded by plants. Brick only comes up late when the tank is in night mode. Before I stopped giving him mealworms his favorite thing to do after eating was go to the other side and lay on the sand next to a boulder.
Add to this I've got a moody, lonely Chocolate (Bobo) who continuously goes over into Brick and Boss' turf. He's basically left alone to roam one whole side of the tank. The other two have little do do with him, unless Brick chases him in circles or Boss lip locks. It's getting pathetic...he keeps going over there despite being rejected. Right now Brick is moping too much to even chase the Choc much right now. Even the catfishes sometimes run him out of his house...he waits patiently for them to leave.
At times he goes after the BP, but its mostly slow motion posturing (or cheap shot ambush when Boss swims by). The Oscar and parrot watch each other's back, so it goes nowhere. The next thing I look and Bobo's got chipped up lips again. This is becoming chronic, his lips heal and a day or two later they're messed up. He gets fed up and goes back to his house eventually (or drifts up in the top corners). Luckily he still eats normally. Which is more than I can say for Brick. If I look to check his progress he sticks his head out, flares, then goes back into the plants.
All this damn nonsense over mealworms.
I'm seriously considering just getting some gut loaded live ones and call it a wrap. This drama is past old.
I'm hoping some of Bobo's issues will be solved when the acara Felix and rainbow Pepper go in. Pepper is coming up on 4 inches and has bulked considerably...In two weeks he and Felix go in the main tank. I have one of those plastic "fish cups" that I will use to introduce them. More on that later.
