I recently aquired a 4ftx1ftx1ft tank, do you think this will be big enough for two red bellies? Im not sure how many gallons it is.

Sounds like a 55 gallon.... I could be wrong. I wouldn't do less than 4 or 5 reds to shoal, def. not in a 55. Look into a baby Rhom or something like that. You'll have to upgrade to a larger tank later, in my humble opinion.

umm id only use that tank as a growout tank for rbp's seeing as they grow to a foot some times =P & id put 3 if you want to build them a nice looking house but they get protective over there lil spots and wont do much zooming around they will just sit in there respected spots.so watch out! kinda boring
if you want lots only cause the lenth of yer tank. AS fast food said 5 but if you wanna do that build a crazy thing in the middle of so they can go around it to hide they like that =D but there would be fights in a 55 i think but im NO pro this^^ just what i do so ya just try anything lol

good answers guys.....a 55 is only a foot thick, and for piranha's you'd like to have 20g per fish, some case's people like to over stock...id say throw 3 in there for about 6 months then upgrade to a 75...that would be your best bet..make sure to have good filtration and keep up on the water changes

thats not a 55, thats like a 35 long or something like that. 55's are the same height and length as 75's just with a much shorter depth. they are 12 wide, 75's are like 18 or something.

A 48x12x12 would be a 30 long 48x12x15 a 50long 48x12x18 a 55.

possibly a 40g breeder then?? any who...throw an elong in there:headbang2

You will not be able to keep any piranha in there for life.
But if your willing to upgrade as whatever piranha you choose matures and grows, you are fine. Are your intentions to upgrade or will this be a permanent tank for what ever fish you keep?

Have you considered exodons if you want predators that you can occasionally throw a feeder into. Or if you want piranha look-alikes silver dollars would like that setup.
