I feel horrible about this but i was netting one of my Blue Angels and I pressed the net up against the fish with too much force and probably damaged his swim bladder. The fish lays on the bottom of the tank alot and only swims when there is food in the tank. I'm not sure how much he is suffering but I'm afraid he won't be able to defend himself as some of the other Angels get bigger. Is there a chance that this will heal on its own or have I damaged the fish for life? Should I put the fish down or is there still a chance he will recover?

I would let nature take its course. There have been discus that i thought were forever damaged from infection, that ended up turning out really well. Im not an expert on angels, but i know that discus recover faster in WARMER water and a little salt. I know SALT is a big CONTRO, but i feel it helps, i have no evidence that it HAS NOT work for any of my ill fish.

SO, just nurse him with better water and some extra attention. Give it another couple weeks and maybe he will suprise you.

Thats what I'm planning to do. I don't know about the salt but I'm going to raise the temp tonight. He is a cute little bugger so I hate to see him die especially being my fault. I was netting him and he got close to the edge of the tank and i accidently pressed to hard and the end of the net smashed him. Everytime i look in the tank I just feel horrible.

Well the little guy is still hanging in there. Last night when doing water changes I contemplated taking him out and putting him out of his misery but couldn't bring myself to do it. He spends the majority of the time laying on the bottom of the tank and the other Angels don't bother him which kind of surprises me. I would think as they get bigger that will change but I'm not sure. Its almost like they are looking out for him but I know thats not the case. The only time I see him get off the bottom is when there is food in the tank and he just kind of flutters around but he eats. He sure seems like a fighter.
