Hi all, I'm planning to make a sump for my tank. but I have no idea how to build it. Does anyone have a guide or any details regarding developing a sump? Please share it with me.

If you read the entire link tlindsey put up, you should have all the info you need.
As you see in my responses I am a minimalist.
I don't use compartments for many reasons, and my philosophy came from decades of trial and error, water testing, ease of maintenance, and of what factors were actually important in my case, or not.
There is "no" one way.

I recently built mine and like it a lot. Like you this was my first sump build and I over thought it a lot at first. Then decided to take duanes advice and build it with no compartments which gives you a lot of options and the ability to move stuff around/change design later if you wish. I decided to keep it simple using 10 ppi & 20 ppi poret foam block walls (which sort of builds compartments), poret foam cubes in the middle & a 7 inch filter sock at the inlet end. I have it in use now in a 125 gallon tank. The sump was built from a 55 gallon tank. Very simple design with no siliconing, no muss no fuss. sump1.jpgsump2.jpgsump3.jpgAquaRsump-300x225.jpg

Can't really add much more to what's already been said.
You can make this as simple or intricate as you want. You can go budget or top of the line.

That's one of my budget ones. Just a container to hold water and a diy wet/dry.

It got a little more intricate but still budget.

Thanks so much for all your valuable ideas and suggestions! Instead of converting a tank into a sump, I ended up building a sump from scratch. Really appreciate the help!
