hey everybody so i just went out to a river (in north georgia) and came back with some driftwood that i was hoping to use in my aquarium (or at least tub pond). My real question is whether or not this wood will rot it my aquarium. I know that hard wood is supposed to be safe but i have no idea what either of these are made out of. any advice?

PS- i am planning on heavily the cleaning the wood before it goes in with bleach, a sand blaster, and boiling it, but any advice on how to better clean it would be appreciated as well.

Soak it in some water for a while then test it. If it feels spongy when you press it or feels soft in general, probably can't use it.

the sticks are dark on one end in the picture from being submerged in water all night. the wet part is pretty hard and doesn't come away if i scrape it with my finger nail.
