I just got me a tiger shovel nose cat, its about 3 inches at the moment. I was wondering what the best food for them was? The guy at my lfs told me that they were feeding them shrimp pellets. It has only been in the tank for a few hours. So I have not fed him yet. :headbang2

Feed him shrimp, beefheart, maybe lobster when he is at 6 inches and you in a good mood:D

little strips of tilapia or beefheart for super growth. Krill for color, shrimp is good too. bloodworms as a snack. If you can, break massivore pellets into little pieces and try to get him on those

I started mine on rosie reds, but only for a week or so to get him accustom to his new surroundings. Then I got him on frozen pre-cooked shrimp, from walmart. I just thawed it, cut it into very small pieces and gave him one twice a day, he liked that, now at 6" he just eats more of it.

If you can get him to eat prepared food, don't switch him back to live, it is a dangerous game to play. After mine tasted feeders after he had gotten on prepared it was really much harder to switch him back again.

ok, i just threw in some shrimp pellets and half a cube of beefheart. so well see if he eats it here in a few.

Congrats on the Pick up, You'll love the TSN ... lots of fun to watch around feeding time... Agressive little things LOL, I've got 6 of them currently ranging from 1" to 8" and they are ALL the same...They all Get Beefheart, Shrimp (both raw and cooked), Muscles, Calamari, Lobster, Sardines... Cichlid Sicks (Don't ask!)... If It's something I feel they might eat... I thow it in their tank and sure enough... THEY EAT IT!

I still have not seen the little guy eat anything. I have offered him beefheart, shrimp pellets, and i chopped up some cooked shrimp and threw it in there and he could care less about eating. what should i do?

About a week ago I got a small TSN, a Leiarius mamoratus, and a small ornate bicar. I'm feeding them baby guppie, and frozen worms. The Leiarus is a pig. The shovel nose seems really scared and not agressive in eating at all. The Bicar is scatter brained, can't tell if he eats or not. They are all in the same tank. Also at the LFS. where I got them.
