My 12" retropinnis got stuck behind the elbow joint of the spray bay I have in my tank.
I used the elbow joint to position the spray bay against the side of the tank.
My retro was beefier than I thought and must've gotten spooked and jammed itself behind it. I heard a splash last night, but the gourami splashes now and then so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.
I usually check to see who's giving who a hard time, but it's usually the GT or the RTGG, so I didn't think anything of it, plus it was hot and I was really tired.
When I got up and turned the lights on to feed them, I see the retro slide out from behind the spray bay, neck bent in a weird way and it bobbed towards the surface breathing heavy, then sank to the bottom and died.
It took a long time to get this fish acclimated to tank life, and eating pellets, but it had been very worth it and it was a thick, green beast.
Here are some before and after shots
When I first got her, she was super skinny:
After 6 months, she was settled in, but still timid:
Later, she started putting on weight and was doing very well! Still skittish:
After a year and lots of growth, she was fully settled in, and was swimming around a lot:
She had grown to be a beast!:
