Hello i have been a member for a little bin now and find that i am in great company. so i expect that others have had the same frustrations as i. i have started with one tank and upgraded to three and more im addicted. one of them is a 180 with monster fish. i have some big oscars only around six inches and some parotts that are also around five to six inch mark and an asian cat fish as well as a true red tail. because i have decided to have these cats that will get really large i have started planning for the new tank in the basement that will be plenty of home for them and most likly just a catfish tank. in order to continue my collection i have been bugging my wife to let me go get the tiger hybread that has been in a local fish store for three plus months. first we had to go to an appointment on the other side of the state and i checked out a couple more stores over there and nothing that could keep up with the size. so lastly in the day i drove across the state to find that the pet store had marked the fish up and not only that but the hybread was all beat up! now at this point im very pissed. not only has it taken me months to convince her to get him, months to find the right size, rearranged all my fish so that there is nothing that will be sharing these cats home that they can eat, but i also drove across the state to get it and came home empty handed and mad. now she claims that "the right one will find me" right, the one hybread that over the last three months i have tracked down will somehow jump out of a river into my truck? everywhere within more then one hundred miles that i can order the fish can only get them in two to three inch and the only other one was not only fifteen bucks more but all beat up! i just had to get that off my chest with others that would under stand and i hope to find more cats localy that are just the right size and everything to complete the collections but as of now i have some amazing tanks and great fish to began with.

Good rant. What size tank do you have or plan to eventually house the RTC in?

I dont get it. Why are you mad? Are you mad bc they said that the tsn hybrid was in good condition and when you got there it was all beat up? Or is it that you saw it when it was in good condition and waited for three months to go get it? You know that catfishes are superbly easy to take care of and that they grow at an insane rate? A 2-3in tiger shovel nose hybrid will get to 12in in under 4 months - if fed regularly and with a great variety.
I dont see why you waited 3+ months to find one when you can grow your own and specialize their growth and color by selective feeding.

Monster fishes get neglected at petshops bc it is expensive to take care of (feeding esp.) and they have limited tanks. Also, there isnt a high demand for fishes of such size. Thus, you'll be lucky if you find good quality fishes.

I think he's just frustrated in general with his inability to grow within the hobby

hey all i just needed to get that one off my chest. the pet store owner was the one that originally lowered the price for me to find him a good home. the same women who was there yesterday and changed her mind about the price drop and would not tell me how he got that beat up. also his top fin was pretty badly chewed and his tail as well. those are easy healing issues, i did not like the multiple scratches down his side and the look as if his whole back was to the point that once healed he would be scared. i was mad and did not mean to be so stern but i have been looking for a while most pet stores as mentioned earlier do not carry them. if they do they typicality are under three inches or so and would not be a good mix with larger fish. i can house the tsn/rtc baby with other fish in different tanks i have three now with a variety of cichlids, just would like to have a large one so i do not have to swap him around and he will grow with the rest. as for the tank situation to house these cats, i have a 180 gallon that is the growing tank. everything in there will be over a foot. i also have a 550 gallon pool in the basement that i have feeders in and a couple red eared sliders and this summer i plan on expanding the pool into a pond that will be 8 foot wide 12 foot long and four feet deep with a large 3/4 glass panel in the front. i already have filtration plans and emptied everything out down there and started bringing in stones to build the pond with. it will be all field stone because here in nh there is a rock every three feet when you want to dig so there is plenty.

lastly to anchovie, i am in bennington nh 7 old coach rd 03442. if you would like to mail me one let me know what the costs will be and i will see if it is possible.

thanks all for the support.

hey thanks a lot for finding this on cl for me, however i do not like the kid he wants to sell him then he changes his mind and back and fourth. i have been to see him and purchased some other fish off of him. lastly he wants 30 then 60 then now 90 bucks for that fish and claims that it will only eat out of his hand and im not likely to hand feed. the fish most likely is back in his tank because i was going to go up there yesterday and get the gar he has listed as well as the catfish but he changed his mind for the fourth time and both were not for sale any more.

sir keeps a lot,

you are corect that i was mad that the hybrid was all beaten up, i also was mad that i waited forever to get him because i did not wish to be on the wifeys bad side and just go get him she is very supportive of my new hobbies and with three functioning tanks in the living room i feel that i am very well off. the fact as well that i saw the fish in great health over the last few visits and now he was beaten and more expensive.
