Is there a criteria for makes a true "oddball" Clown?
I found 2 at a LFS in Dallas that were just chillin in with the normal-pattern guys @ $7.99. One has a black stripe going straight down his back, connecting all the vertical bands with a shortened & rounded middle band. The other one has more of a black blob than a middle band. I'm stuck at a pension conference in Dallas, TX & I was told I needed to go by Dallas North Aquarium, so i checked it out tonight. They seperated them for me & I'm gonna pick them up tomorrow on my way out of town. They should be fine in a 5g bucket for 4 hours, right? Pics ASAP, but did I get a deal?

Does the bucket have a filtration and heating at all? If so, it could work but personally a more spacious container is needed.

As for "true" oddball clown loaches, it's basically perception what you think is rare, moderately common or quite common. I don't bother with these labels personally and just get what is available. The oddball patterns you often see would be side spot and saddlebacks. Four stripes and jigsaw are a little harder to find.

Thanks for the info. As far as heat, its over 100 degrees today, so I'm not too worried about that. I was hoping I wouldn't need any filtration, except maybe an airstone... The clowns are only about an inch long. I'll be grabbing them on my way out of town, so probably no updates until Monday. Wish me luck!

Filtration is important. At inch size, these babies are very sensitive to poor water conditions. A sponge filter will suffice especially as it has a dual purpose of filtration and aeration.

Update: The 5g bucket with an airstone worked pretty well, but they were a bit stressed from the long ride & bumpy highway. Anyhow, they are looking great & eating well today. They have not become part of my Kobutai shoal yet, but they have no fear of the big Kubs that constantly check them out...

Glad to hear they made it. Can't really tell if they are odd without pictures.
