Excuse my poor pic, camera phone.

Anyways, bought two GTs to grow out in a 55 Gallon where I plan on keeping one. As you can see they're still small, the male is a tad smaller then the female pictured. New to GTs so I could only give my best educated guess that I had a male and a female (not that hard to sex, the male has more vibrant coloring along with forming a small hump already).

Had a question though - before this spawn these two were inseperatable, they always swam around the tank together. Now that the female layed eggs she won't let the male anywhere near the eggs - is this normal? Do you think he already fertiziled the eggs?

There are 3 Cherry Barbs in the tank with these guys at the moment (used as dithers to get the GTs eating better as when I didn't have them in here they wouldn't eat much). The female will let these guys swim by her/the eggs without chasing them around or anything, but when the male GT comes around she won't let him near the eggs. She doesn't chase him around the tank, just won't let him around the eggs.

Sometimes this happens when fish breed usually the first time until they become experienced. I had a convict pair do the exact same thing but this time is was the other way around the female was kicked out and the male took care of the eggs.

First of all, congrats. on becoming a grandparent! I was always very fond of GTs' but had to find out the hard way not to tank them with tilapia but.'s no matter the size! I currently have three GTs' about the same size as yours, just hope I have a breeding pair too! I'm a grandparent, but I want some GT grandchildren! Keep us updatedwith some flix when they hatch.
