But you can't help smile when you see these little guys; Am I right in thinking that it's very stressful for a puffer fish to puff up- I remember reading on another forum- a guy asked if he was supposed to make it puff up every now and then- :banhim: was a well sought after opinion lol- no he was just misinformed. :chillpill: luckily he he hadn't done it yet as he wanted to check

Puffers will puff up if under stress such as an attack or warning off rivals. However, some captive puffers have learned to puff up to garner attention from their owners in the hopes of receiving snacks. One of my mbus puffs when I have the krill container. Another one spits water at me to get my attention.

However, puffers evolved their inflation abilities UNDER WATER. They should NEVER be made to inflate out of water. This may induce an embolism that can kill the puffer in short order.

yea i knew it was bad above water- saw this vid of some crazy foreigners fishing- they catch a puffer and it has puffed up and they throw it around then throw it back into the sea... am i right in thinking that if they puff up above water they can inhales air or too much oxygen or something and basically die...?

no it's more like injecting air into your veins

air stays in the gas chamber causes infections and the fish doesn't swimm properly and can't eat. it's a lot like swim blatter disease.
