Where is the best place to buy black sand. I know saw som ethings posted in the past but I can't turn anything up with the search feature.

You used to be able to order from pool installation companies. But 3M has discontinued making the color quartz.

I would look at getting the black Tahitian moon sand. You can find it on-line at Drs Foster and Smith.

I bought black sand from a metal fabricating company. They were using it for sand blasting. I also found some at Tractor Supply, but they only had it once. I found out it was the same black sand the LFS was buying and selling for $.75/lb. The 50 lb bag I bought was only $9. Just make sure you rinse it off good or have a good filter and lots of patience!!

Be sure to check the grain size... Tahitian Moon Sand is to fine for my taste. I wouldn't use it again...

I was still able to buy Color Quartz just last weekend. I picked up a bag of black, blue and some green.

I would also reccomend checking out any local mineral companies. I just went to one here in Washington last week. I was looking for some pool filter sand and couldn't find it anywhere. Checked Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, McLendons, none of them had it. LFS wanted $44 for a 100lb bag.
Went to mineral company, they had about 30 different types of sand (including black) with different grain sizes for all of them. I ended up getting 200lbs of the sand I wanted for $44.
