Today was a sad day for me. I got a silver aro two days ago. He was about 6". I put him in my tank with an oscar, lima shovelnose cat, blood parrot and a clown loach. I was a little worried he was too scrawny as my oscar is 8" and the cat is about 10". He seemed to be doing ok and was eating good. Today, when i got home i looked at the top of the water and didn't see him. I thought maybe he was behing some tall plants i have towards the back of the tank. I turned on the lights and i noticed the shovelnose's stomach was bloated and no aro! This is the second fish he has ate. I really want an aro. Did I buy too small?

wow..that's sad... 6" can be eaten by 10" cat? imo since 6" aros is slender and longer body type..the cat can easily swallow it...
Thanks to those with usefull info. I will be holding out for the larger aro. I guess, seeing the beauty of these fish when mature, I got a little ahead of myself. The other fish are very young, but the shovelnose is growing very rapidly. Having no experience with aros, I underestimated the size difference. A learning experience.
