After a couple of months cycling my outdoor deck pond all was in readyness for "adding of fish". To be on the safe side I placed only one fish ~ 5" Hi-Fin Pleco in the first day, then introduced quaranteened rosey red minnows the second day. All went well with the aclimation process.
Monday evening I transferred four gar to the pond. There is a Longnose closing in on 16", and three Florida gar ranging in size from 6" to 9". I found the smallest florida gar dried up on the deck after somehow getting out of the pond
I am heartbroken and don't know what I should do. The pond has a netting with 1" x 1" mesh adheared to the rim of the pond and covering the entire surface. I do not see how the little florida gar managed to get through the netting, which is 4" - 5" above the surface water lever. The other two florida gars and the Longnose gar are easily twice as fat as the smallest florida that has passed! Will I be OK with the current cover?
