REEFLO HAMMERHEAD GOLD close to 100gmp. anyone have experience with one of these? how do i prime it? it says its not self priming, but i guess i can figure it out. this should run a 500g system quite well (I HOPE)

Just poor water into the white chamber and hook up your hoses and fill them with water as much as you can and it will prime

Gold is good! Nice pick up! Let us know how you like it.

Nice looking pump! None of the online pictures I've seen of the Reeflo gold pumps show the pumps with a gold color. After seeing yours, I had to check out one of my Barracuda Gold pumps which have been in its box for months now....same color as yours!

I had thought about going with Hammerhead Gold, but the Gold has a little less "umph" than the regular Hammerhead. It's a little weird, because the Barracuda Gold is more powerful than it's predecessor. The Hammerhead pump on our 300 gallon tank has performed flawlessly for over five years. I bought a spare Hammerhead in case of a failure...haven't even opened the box.

Our plumbing to the tank is necked down to 1" pipes at the tank (from the 1.5" from the Hammerhead port) We have tremendous current in the tank from the Hammerhead....our fish love it!

Don't remember about priming the Hammerhead pump...it's been too long since we set it up....we unplug the pump during water changes and then plug it back in...it's just a beast of a pump. I'm sure you'll be very pleased with your Hammerhead Gold.

ya i thought it was weird it has less power, but it uses a lot less and comes with 2 yrs more warrenty. you use 1" pipe on a 5800 gph pump!?!?! wow i thought 1.5 was small looks like fish enjoy the current though, no problems kicking up debris i bet

I'm assuming you're going use your Hammerhead Gold in conjunction with a sump. Just read a review of some one who said his Hammerhead Gold was so powerful, it was sucking his sumps dry, so he downsized to a Barracuda Gold. A valve on the return line to the tank would eliminate this kind of problem. That Hammerhead Gold is a lot of pump, if it's just returning water from a sump. I'm planning on one Barracuda Gold returning the water from a 400 gallon holding sump.

ugh mine is just a 100g sump, but yes a valve is there since it said it could be valved back down to as much as 400gph
