welp, i went fishing in michigan this weekend and was able to catch 2 king salmon 1.5 inch fry. they r goin in the bog filter which is basically a stream with a pocket i dug and gaurd with large rocks and pea gravel. they are going in there until 4 or 5 inches and then going to a mesh live well in the pond until large enough to be released into the pond, the pond is 12x7x3 feet deep, crystal clear, well oxygenated and stocked with fingerling trout at the moment. i dont know wat to feed the salmon, right now im tryin bits if worms and ground up hikari gold, wil this b ok?
I have 2 king salmon fry at 1 inch long. They are in a pocket guarded with rocks in a bog filter, basically a 5 foot long stream with a couple tufts of baby plants. They survived a 7 hour ride in the car and 2 days in the fridge in 2 different water bottles. Within ten minutes in the stream, they were eating daphnia and infusoria from some pond water. They already have a pecking order
the more energetic one is in front of the lazier one in the flow of water. The second gets enough food because the flow of water is like a toilet bowl, so particles go out in the middle for him. The stronger hits anything, and it isn't a snag, it is an all out rush haha. It really reminds me of a pike or muskie grabbing a carp. It only does this for moths and really loves bits of rolly-pollies. The second prefers larger food and anything the first spits out he'll eat. The second just opens his mouth and waits for food to drift in if there's a piece of moth or something. If he gets in the first's way, then he will get a nip in the tail or side.
I'M PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO A HALF-GALLON POCKET THAN THE 12X7X3FT DEEP, 1700GAL POND THAT IT'S ATTACHED TOO!!!
they were caught in a part of the river where its legal, here are some pics of them and the future home once they get bigger, after ten minutes in the stream they are already snapping up daphnia and bits of worms, right now i have a 200 gph pump with a filter that removes all waste and keeps the params perfect, im getting a 1000 gph pump this week
The pond is nowhere near aquascaped, or landscaped for that matter, I get under the water to set up the rocks and it is WAY to cold for that
the fry's heads are just 2 big eyes and a giant mouth, the bodies have 9 green stripes on a silver background. These are king or chinook salmon.
