Hi! I've posted a question already, and wanted to say hello. I'm new to this site, as a member, but I have been reading your previous posts, mainly due to all the problems I've been having lately with my aquarium.

I've had fish before, but it's been a while, and I've forgotten a lot of the stuff I learned, so I am hoping to relearn what I've forgotten, and then some.

My almost three year old son loves the tank we have set up. It's a rectangular 10 gallon with small white gravel, rounded smooth pebbles, and live plants. I don't use a bubble aerator, but instead rely on the plants, and the filter to take care of that.

My problems started when I bought plants from a guy on eBay, and that is why I started researching. Funny how we humans take things for granted until there's a problem.

Nice to meet you all,
LorriAnne

hey i just joined too and i have a 10 gallon. but i wish i would have started off with a 20 gallon because i want to buy one. but the probablem is that i dont know wut to do with my 10 gallon i currently have :( i ony have 4 fish in there. its small and i want a 20 gallon like my friend started out with and im trying to figure out where to put my 10 gallon because my mom wont let me put the tank out in the living room so i only have pretty much one room to put my 10 gallon.i could try putting it into my bedroom from my gameroom and try putting the 20 gallon in the gameroom. well im out of luck for now

Welcome to MFK LorriAnne..... yes we humans do take alot for granted that things will work out and try not to question things until there is a problem... but i quess this is how we learn.. and humans always have so much learning to do..so it is easy to overlook things too... and we are also trusting... so what is your problem ..are you losing fish since you used the new plants.? Anyway it is nice to meet you and you will learn so much from all the great knowledgeable people here... if you have any questions let me know.....

Welcome!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Here is the link to the question I asked. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96635&page=15 It's a kind of long post, but it's from my blog, so it is really detailed, plus there is additional info in the post made here that isn't in the blog post.

FireMedic, glad to meet you, too. I was starting to think I was the only girl here, LOL. I asked my sister to do some research for me, and just to make sure she understood that this for for an aquarium, i told her some of the problems I was having with the tank. She's a research librarian, and I have asked her to do research for me in the past because she has access to listservs I haven't even heard of. She got grossed out, told me she had to go, and hung up. *sigh*

Brandon, from what I have been reading, you might want to keep the 10 gallon as back up for sick fish, sort of a hospital tank. Or maybe to isolate plants before introducing them into the 'real' tank (which I wish I would have done, but I needed the plants, as i don't use an aerator), and you could use it to isolate new fish, too, to make sure they are disease free.

I have kids around your age (mine are almost 22, and married, just turned 19 and going into the Navy, and almost 16, who lives with her dad, and then I have the youngest, who I call MrBaby, and he is almost 3), so speaking from your mom's perspective, show her you can handle the ten gallon first, before going after the 20 gallon, and then see if she will let you pick up on some after-Christmas specials early next year.

Oh, and I put the mommy fish back in the tank. Not sure if she is better or not, but she seems to be happier, plus the gallon jar's water was getting cloudy. the red spot isn't as big now, but I still wouldn't be surprised if I lost her.
