Here's what happened, I was at work and mistakenly told my wife to move 12 tiger barbs from the QT to the 280g tank instead of the 55g :duh:. My reason was to give them a few hours to get familiar with the tank so I could watch them when I get home. And she did...called back moments later asking me if I'm sure what tank it was because she said that the arowana ate two of them right away. Then I realized my stupid mistake...now there's only 8 remaining. I can't think of a way to catch them in that big of a tank without stressing the others. Should I just suck it up and leave 'em there as feeders or is there a trick to catch them? I just want to save them from being eaten if I could because they're not intended for that.
Thanks for reading and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you had a way of dividing the tank up and having your bigger fish on one end until you could catch the tiger barbs, I wonder if that would work.

You could always do a 50% wc and then it makes it much easier to catch them and the others are already stressed somewhat because of the wc going on anyways. I usually use two nets to catch fish in my 220, one is impossible to catch them lol.

Catch them while they're sleeping and have your wife on one end of the tank with a large net, and you on the other end with a large net. Or, you both could have two large nets, whichever is easier. Good luck catching them lol :D

When I need to catch small, quick fish in a big tank, I get the lids off the top of my tank and use them as like a wall. I use a net to push the small fish to one side of the tank and I have the lid placed vertical and slowly move it towards the small fish so they have less room to escape. They'll be swimming in the left part of the tank and then I just net them up. It works most of the time.

t-barbs are cheap enough i wont bother personally not worth the stress for the other fish IMO

^^agreed^^ I know this sucks but just let them go, and grab some more barbs later. sorry or your loss.
