My 80G community grow out tank consists of a 5" red wolf, 5" senegal bichir, 5" clown knife, 4" crayfish and the new comer 8" brown ghost knife. The sense of community only has to last until this summer.

I've recently lost two black ghost knives in a short period, one died from shipping, one became food that night for the red wolf.. :swear:

I added the brown ghost knife tonight, I convinced myself that I read they are hardier and somewhat more outgoing in personality, if it did the memory is vague.

The tank has 10 more than retreat spots.

The clown knife is being really creepy to the brown ghost knife.

The crayfish gave him a brushed nose.

Mistake?

In need of some intimate brown ghost knife information.

no thanks

I don't know much about brown, but black ghost knives have a reputation for being a little wussy. If this doesn't work out I would wait till you set up a tank where the ghost would be the meanest fish in the tank...

The brown knife should be OK as it is pretty big. hey are quick, but with a wolf/CK/Crayfsh in the tank anythings possible.

the crayfish and red wolf is a little iffy. the ck will grow fast, and if its already established its territory, even bigger knifes better watch out(from experience). id rearrange the decor just in case. my CK went from 4" to 13" in 4 months. the senegal should be ok.

Wolf and Cray would be a bad combo for Knives. Both of them sneak around into hiding spots looking for food and if the Knife happens to be in there, they will take a swipe at it.

Thank you all for the inputs!

Only time will tell but no casualties yet.

For the concerns raised:

The wolf just sits in the upper-middle spot all day like a king during the day and I leave a good portion of food over night, some scraps end up being left out that gets taken care of by the afternoon. Over filtration is key in this case.

The crayfish has stolen the CK's favourite spot, and the crayfish is a tough guy in there so nobody gets too close to him. The CK is rattled as he's much more active now out in the open seemingly throwing a fit. He is still chasing the brown ghost on occasions but I've also seen them hanging out together side by side, if that means anything.

I'm off to the lfs tomorrow to get more driftwood and floating plants.
