well im kinda new to tire track eels and bichirs well I currently own 2 of each in a 280 gallon with several terra cotta pots for hides I use river rocks (the black mexican pebble ones) I use a 2260 eheim a XP3 and an aquaclear 500 and the tank was started of with some cichlids that were with my turtle a total of 12 3 peackocks and 9 various mbuna the water is at less than 0.3at nitrite, ammonias at 0, and ph at 8.0 and the tank has been like that for 2 months now with a 20% water change every 2 weeks. Now for the issue..... now I have placed new fish in there not to recently after I had placed the eels in there and I noticed some of the cichlids had started to flash (but have no white spots to show) and Im concerned because I have heard tire tracks dont handle formilin treatment for ich well so how can I treat for ich without killing my eels  please help before this might escalated to something much more worse

use half the recommended dosage, increase temp., maybe add some salt with more water changes 20% every two weeks seems a bit small.

keep us updated and good luck!

in the fish diesease and health forum guppy has a sticky on how to use the salt treatment. i have used it and also used heavy doses of seachems para gaurd on sensitive fish. hope this helps a lil. keep us posted

Ok..... so apperantly I must raise my temp to 85 degrees and add 2 cups for every 100 gallons add some air stone altough the aeration caused by the spry bar might be enough wouldnt you all say? ok that sounds easy enough and if 20% sounds to small how much should I be changing the water and how much on a 280 gallon tank.....

I would add the airstone anyway. And i think 25%-30% weekly water changes.

im gonna do this monday how big of a airstone should I use? and what size pump? using airstones is kinda new to me too.....and should I worry about my bichirs can they tolerate the salt ok?

well I started the treatment on sunday I couldnt wait my temps are at 88 im taking a gamble here but the fish seem to be doing very well in fact after starting the treatment I noticied the female auratus was holding again....(this is the 3rd time in just 1 month  ) and I havent seen anyone flash since then... they didnt even have white spots from the start and my eels dont seem to be infected with ich and they should have been the first to come under visual symptons they have no scales so I geuss im assuming that however so far it appears to be working......

if you don't see anything, don't do anything.

fish scratching is normal.

add some salt if you're concerned and keep the temp above 82F.

1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons of water.
