Between a Rock and a Hard Place...
So im out here in the ghetto of America, California....With no fish to keep me company while i finish up med school this summer...and my girlfriend sent me some pics of my gars! I gotta say for a photography major they are some pretty crappy pics haha! She wants to know how you guys get the fish in perfect focus with the background totally black? Anyways! thought Id share my little guys with you. Garth Vader is about 12inches and Garth Maul is about 7 or 8inch. They are in with a 6inch endli and one golden guarmi, and a peacock eel come to think of it.

I meant to ask! in the last pic there is a line on his back...its hard to see but i think its a scratch. The bigger one is more skiddish...he broke his nose when he was smaller, you can still tell! I hope the scratch heals ok...

nice looking gars man. if your g/f is a photo-major then she probably can get access to some of the right stuff for pics too. a lot of us use wireless or slave-wired flashes over top the aquarium, that way the fish is illuminated from above (flash usually triggered by the built-in flash on the camera itself). from there you can toy with auto/manual settings and see what works best.

that's really it in a nutshell, although xander has a good fish photo thread somewhere pinned in the photo forum, so you may want to refer her to that. overhead wireless flash really lets you "cheat" with fish photography, as shooting animals inside of water-filled boxes is a major challenge in the field (of photography). and yes, cleaning the glass goes a long way too--

Thanks Sol. :) I cant wait to start collecting the other species once I'm back! even now if I see any offers Im going to pounce and just have her take care of them...no matter how jealous I willl be! Im still trying to find Shorties and LNG primarily...
