I need a fish dermatologist

What is this?
He has a perfect complection other than this thing. I know its not HITH. Thats obviouse. Is this what an ulcer looks like? He's had a bump there for a while, but its always been under the skin. A week ago it broke open and looks like a big zit. I took this picture today. It looks like a little white thing is attachec to it. I dont think its alive. It doesnt look like a worm to me.

ANYONE?? If you've seen one of these before or have had a fish with something like it let me know. If it is an ulcer, how do you treat them?

- Right now i'm just treating with Malefix. I havent done a full regiment yet. I will be over the next week though. So maybe that will help.

does his mouth open fine? When he does open his mouth does that white thing stay where it's at or does it move at all? Looks almost as if he has broken his maxillae, and a piece of it has slowly worked it's way through the skin. I say this because normally the maxillae in this fish lays parallel to the premaxillae, and the pterygoid. In your fish if you look at the side that is unaffected you will see that the maxillae is laying in proper position. the affected side appears to be out of alignment. I believe that is bone sticking out! Just my thoughts! As for fixing it, you got me there!

hope this helps explain it better! After you look at this pic and see the gap where the maxillae should lay naturally look at the unaffected side and you will see that it is clearly broken!

that break will not heal properly like that, but i don't know what to suggest besides medicating to stave off infection while the skin heals around it! I am affraid he will allways have a crooked mouth unless you know a fish vet that can fix broken bones!

It will heal, then he'll rip it open, heal, rip open etc. etc. He doesnt have any trouble opening and closing it. He still eats, and digs in the gravel like normal.

Thanks for your input. Never would have thought of that. I guess there's not much i can do about that. I'll just dose with malefix if he rips it open.
I just hope it doesnt get worse.

I had a fish with a bone sticking out once! Some kind of fungus grew on the bone exclusively after a couple of months the bone fell off and the fish was fine! That piece of bone is good as dead out in the open like that. Keep us updated on his condition.
