Ceramic Heat Emitters run HOT HOT HOT for the wattage. Way more efficient than standard bulbs. I'd probably go with a lower wattage c.h.e. unless you have a thermostat or a rheostat to control it....
Yep, and make sure it's a ceramic fixture, if it's the plastic clip lamp fixtures that you get at the hardware store a CHE can/will melt it. For a tank that size I'd probably go with a heat pad or a red night bulb.
Technically speaking anything with heat emits infrared light. It may just not be in a form visible to us. If you want something better than a light try a under the tank heating pad its a more natural form of heating. Reptiles lie on rocks to "sunbathe" but what they are doing is using not only light but the heat that is stored in objects such as rocks to warm up. I always prefer a heat pad to a heat lamp since lamps can fall break and cause fires.
