I remember a while ago I used a heating lamp, but it didn't make light; just heat. What are they called? I want to buy one again to use at night.

Ceramic ;)

ceramic heat emitter

Too ber exact;)

Thanks, I've seen those. They are adequate, and I could get one to replace my 75 watt heat lamp, right? (20g, corn snake)

EDIT: Oh yes, I remembered; but I used a bulb, that you put into the actual lamp, and it didn't make light. Hmmm...

Ceramic Heat Emitters run HOT HOT HOT for the wattage. Way more efficient than standard bulbs. I'd probably go with a lower wattage c.h.e. unless you have a thermostat or a rheostat to control it....

Yep, and make sure it's a ceramic fixture, if it's the plastic clip lamp fixtures that you get at the hardware store a CHE can/will melt it. For a tank that size I'd probably go with a heat pad or a red night bulb.

Also ;)
They kinda look like bulbs.. are we on the same page?

Okay, thanks. But are you sure there isn't a bulb that makes no light?

Maybe it was turned off.....;)

Seriously though, there are a couple different ceramic "bulbs". The Zilla one looks like a black lightbulb.

Technically speaking anything with heat emits infrared light. It may just not be in a form visible to us. If you want something better than a light try a under the tank heating pad its a more natural form of heating. Reptiles lie on rocks to "sunbathe" but what they are doing is using not only light but the heat that is stored in objects such as rocks to warm up. I always prefer a heat pad to a heat lamp since lamps can fall break and cause fires.
