We went from a 46 gallon with an HOB and two Eheim 2028's without a canopy to a 90 gallon plus canopy with a Pan World 200 PS and canister filters.

My wife has a neurological condition where she is hypersensitive to noise. If it gets too noisy she becomes disoriented and then sick. So I chose the Pan World because it has a reputation for being relatively quiet. Unfortunately, the pump is too loud for her.

The Pan World is a high pressure pump rated at approximately 1,750 gph although I realized the actual flow rate would be less than this. I expected to have to throttle back the flow to 900 gph. As it turned out the actual flow rate is a little over 900 gph.

While there are no silent pumps I am hoping someone could suggest a pump that is as near to silent as possible even if it means paying significantly more money.

Does any one have experience with Red Dragon pumps? Are they the type of pumps that you have to be next to them listening carefully to tell they are running?

The Blueline Velocity T4 pump is widely considered to be the quietest pump. They're not that energy efficient and also add heat to the water. The new Octopus Water Blaster pumps are almost as quiet but much more energy efficient.

I've "heard" the Velocities are dead silent, but they impart a lot of heat into the water as opposed to fan cooled pumps, which are louder. All I can say about the Red Dragons are that they seem really really overpriced.

The Water Blasters are like a cheaper version of the Red Dragons which may no longer be in production.

Reefcentral has a lot of discussion on pumps and noise.

I have a quiet one 6000 and you would never know its there unless you see it.

Look no further. Eheim 1262 is the pump you want. I am using 2 of them and 1 1260 and love it. Yes they are super silent. I was using the quiet one pump and eheim is quiet and efficient.
