I have a pair of Jags that have just layed eggs, I think it was just a few days ago cuz I just noticed them this morning, and they look hatched. to tell you the truth i didnt know what to look for and felt they were still too young to breed.

any ways that happened on one far end of the tank. meanwhile on the other side something is going on with my convict female. I noticed her belly was growing, and that something was sticking out her bottom end. we pulled up some chairs to sit and watch her to make sure she was ok. she was hanging out in a cave, with the male coming and going. I went to work and got back to find the thing popped out her bottom was huge!!

Im kinda getting worried, is she going to lay eggs? and if so, can I move her to cut down the aggression of 2 pairs of fish with babies?

she is digging in her cave as I type.

Im worried about the other jags and other convict pair that didnt breed, will they be ok with 2 pairs of fish with babies till I can get the fry moved? there is plenty of space, but I just need some advice.

FYI, I have 2 (21 galons) tanks ready just in case.IMG_1600.JPG

Wow. That is a big egg laying tube.

I would move the non spawning fish and leave the couples in there. If space is big, i would not touch anything.

Males may turn in the females if you remove the fry.

ok, so it IS an egg tube, I kinda got worried for a sec.

I might move a few of the other fish just incase.
I have this thing where I still feel like all my jags are still babies, but i guess not. dont want to end up with anymore eggs.

one more thing...
is it possible that I can only sex one couple out of six young jags that I have? all the others seem to still look like they were when they were new. Just the spawning couple have had an obvious change in pattern.

any more advice on how to proceed with my situation?

It is a very big tube. I did not say it was some kind of anal prolapse due to your description of spawning behaviour, or at least the way i read it.

Is the female behaving normally?

As to the Jags, the pair developed quicker...take the other guys out.

Do not expect the female to grow to its potential, since spawning early has a toll on their growth.

agreed

well she is normal, and does look like she is cleaning a spawning spot, if she will lay eggs, when should it happen before i start to worry?

here are some pics of my jags <3

they are the most interesting and beautiful fish I have ever seen. and very hard to find in my country. took me over 18 months to find them.

If she is behaving normally as in being in love, do not worry.

If Jags are so difficult to get over there, my advice would be to take the 4 remaining ones out. Their life will be hard once babues hatch.

good Idea, gonna get to it as soon as my husband gets back to help with the moving, will a 21 gallon be fine for now? or each 2 in separate 21 gallon tanks?

Put them all in one. You may form another pair.

But that space will be short, shortly, in any case :)
