So I bought wave makers today for my freshwater tank. Two rated each at 1,600GPH (each unit has 2 separate outputs, propellers rated at 800GPH each). I read that good circulation will help clean the tank faster as I have also observed this when reverse vacuuming my tank (meaning I use the garden hose to put water). Most of the debris float and are then carried into the direction of the external canister filter input. I have seen that the floating debris does get sucked more efficiently. Within 30minutes most of the visible dirt on the surface of the sand is gone. BTW I placed the wave makers in a direction parallel to the sand surface about an inch above it. The output is powerful enough that I can see the fish fins moving gently at 1.2meters away from the wave makers. Most of my fish seem to enjoy it with the exception of the silver arowana (24") which seems to be bothered by being pulled into the wave makers' input (yup he looks dumb weak from my POV here). The ray, cichlas and the rest of the colony seem to be fine by it but the 2 feet of the wave makers' proximity seems vacated with the wave action. Will my fish be fine by this in the long run? Should I reduce the wave maker outputs or should I just keep one? I feel like it's just like exercise. Now since they are new to it, they will be uneasy with the waves as they have not exercised enough. In the future, they will be "stronger" and have a cleaner tank everyday. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks in advance!

Try putting them closer to the surface. Direct them at a slight angle down. This should give more calm area for resting fish or fish that don't like the current.
