I need plans for a stand for a 175 gallon bow front ...i dont like the factory stands they look cheap(cosmeticaly)

I would like a rock stand but wood might be an option.

Thanks in advance for any ideas / suggestions

Do a search on the DIY forum and you'll find quite a bit of info and pics of tank stands designs.

The only thing I see that can be a problem for you, is that you have a bowfront tank. If you want a stand to fit perfectly (curve of the bowfront) like stands they sell specifically for your tank, you have quite a bit of work cut out for you. :D

You could make the base out of cinder block and then do a veneer rock on that. You would have to add some wood to the front to compensate for the bow part of the tank.

Your stand doesn't have to be bow front at all. I have my small bow front on a square base.. I like the little ledges left over for when I'm feeding or working on the tank.

:iagree: The stand doesnt have to bow out with the tank, and if what you want is something original make the stand bow inwards oposite of the tank bowing outwords. It would look cool but you would have your work cut out for you.

I had a friend who had a 29 tall on a stand the same width of the tank, but the stand was like 3 inches shorter than the tank on both sides and he never leveled it, for a long time before he took it down and it was fine (cause it was small) I personally have had bad luck with tanks being just a little off or not supported properly, and the magic number seems to be 30g, atleast with all my experiences. This is a 175g and support on the frame is a must, that's alot of water to clean up. I'd say unless you strongly believe in you carpentry just buy the stand also, it's made for the tank speculations. And if you do it with brickwork just make sure the frame is supported evenly and very sturdy, thats alot of water.
