I think you should go see if you can find a female regular.. that looks to be a male from physical appearance... And does not look like a hybrid ;)

Though You may also want to vent your EBJD ;)

looks like a regular ol' JD to me... and does appear to be male...

The jack dempsey that you recently purchased doesn't look to be a hybrid. As for the sex of the fish it is still on the small side to sex properly.

thanx everbody for the input. does anyone know where i can get a bgjd female or reg jack female of about 1.5'

Hard to tell from the angle, but the JD appears to be male...very little to no blue on the gill plate....

As far as a BGJD goes, good luck :) I've seen them for sale at very high prices...anywhere from $1500-2000 for a breeding pair depending on the line. The good news is that regular JD's are a common fish in any LFS. Do some research on sexing them and go pick one or two out.

ps- the best way I have found to sex JD's is using the gill plate/lower jaw area. More blue on the gill plate = female and little to no blue = male. Someone posted a side by side comparison along with tips on sexing them- I will try and find it for you.
