separate the wounded turtle. apply betadine using cotton swab on the affected area (avoid getting any on the mouth/nostril areas). keep dry for at least a few days. let's wait for the others' opinion too. good luck i hope it gets well asap. :(

okay separated them.. put him in a bucket with his own very small amount of water and i gave him a dab of betadine on the wound.... letting that dry.. what about a salt bath too.. how much aquarium salt can i use with how much water? thanks

i have a good supply of meds here.. so i was wondering what would be safe for a turtle too.. i will definitly get other meds if needed but i wanted something safe for the time being... here are new pics after the swab of betadine... 021.JPG

just keep it dry for a few days, or provide a dry area, and clean water area (keep it shallow @0.5" depth) so that the turt can stay on the dry area if it wishes. the salty water might stress the turtle even more. (imagine the effect of salty water on an open wound. OUCH.). the swelling should subside after a few days if there's no infection (the betadine has sterilised the wound), but if the swelling continues, see a vet.

i just did not want any fungus setting in... but yes that would be a big ouch... thanks very much for info and help...

a salt bath a day would not be a bad idea though. It would certainly sting initially but think of how it would benefit it in the long run if it prevents infection. Turtles can handle stress much better than snakes or lizards so I would do a salt bath for about 30 minutes a day with a strong brackish solution.

thanks ,.....i will definitly do this tommorrow,... i will let the wound heal some from the betadine today only ... thats what i was thinking that it could not really hurt other then a sting from the salt in the wound at first.... we go into salt water ourselves and it heals our boo boos fast.. i hope he will be alright..so i will do the salt bath first thing in am ..
