I need help stocking a 55 Gallon Mbuna Tank

I would like to have the most colorful Mbuna tank. I have only owned SA Cichlids (Oscar, JD, and Green Terror) and I tired of only having one or two fish in the tank.
So please tell me what YOU would put in a 55 gallon. Thanks for the input.

rather small for a lot of Mbuna species imo but Maybe some sp. Acei and yellow labs with a few red zebras or something along those lines. just be careful

What about a pair of Discuss or Angle fish with some Rams and some other species?

wow...thats the same question someone on the milwaukee forum asked earlier this week..but he wanted to set up a 75 gallon instead of a 55 gallon....will be interested to see what you get vs him......

He did say MBUNA. Those are African cichlids, not south American like you suggested.

Going with Yellow Labs, Acei, and maybe a Red or Cobalt zebra is hard advice to top.
They are all colorful and easy to find at pet shops.
Stay away from Kenyi.. they look great and are common at petstores, but they are very territorial, and need a larger tank than a 55. I would stay away from demasoni, they are very aggressive in my experience too.

labeotropheus trewavasae and labeotropheus fuelleborni are pretty cool in my opinion too, and not overly aggressive in my experience.

Really, the best advice is to see what's available, see what you like, and then ask.. There's so many different Mbuna to pick from.
