Hello,

Like any aquarist worth their salt, I want to utilize any space I can. I have a small space between my 125g and the wall that measures 16" from the widest part of the stand to the wall. I'm a dwarf cichlid guy and I will be one happy camper if I can come up with a stand that will hold (3) 10 gallon tanks facing short side out in this space.

10g are 10" wide, so that leaves me with roughly 6" of space left for the actual stand. Can someone help with a design? Height and length are not really an issue, only the width. Gone are the days when every spare wall could hold a tank...I'm signing my life away in 3 months, AKA getting married. So every little tank helps!

Just build something real quick out of 2x4s. Easiest way is to build 3 square frames for the bottoms of the 10s. From there, just attach 4 vertical 2x4s to create the height. Attach each frame at the desired tank height.

I agee with pharaoh.

2x4's are plenty strong, and with glue and high quality deck screws doubled up at each joint you don't have to worry about the fasteners supporting the weight versus using wood butt joints. A 10gal weighs like 90lbs full.

The only way to make a more minimalist or thin structure would be to use steel and weld up some square tubing or angle iron.

+2, simple 2x4 stand will hold your 240 pounds of water and tank weight.

stand.JPG They're just 10gal, so no need to go into "engineering" mode. Like already mentioned, 2X4s and deck screws are all you need. Here's my interpretation of Pharoah's design. Keep bottom tank high so viewing and w/c will be easier

If the tanks eat up 10" (slightly over with the rim), and then I use a 2x4 on each side, that adds 3". Total width of stand comes out at 13", So I will still have 1.5" on each side of the stand? I had a moment, I don't know why I was thinking about a 2x4 being 2" wide...I don't want it to be such a tight fit that I have to scratch the wall or 125g stand. Sounds like I will have plenty of room.

Thanks for the diagram Xracyer. Do I need to put down plywood on each shelf, or will the tanks do fine just being supported on their rim?

If the tanks' trim/frame are resting on the wood, your good.
