OK here is the deal. I have an 8 foot long acrylic 300 gallon tank. It has two 1" inlets on one end at the top and two 2" outlets at the other end at the top. I have a home made filter consisting of five totes with meadia in them stacked above a 55 gallon tank. It has a 1500 gph pump sending the water back to the inlets. For some reason i can not get the water clear. It has an orange or brown tint to the water. I have thought about switching to a comerical filter system if i can get rid of this problem. Any suggestions?

Steve

What kind of media do you have?

Activated carbon can get rid of color, I've also seen old carbon give off color.

Do you have driftwood in your tank?

x2

I had something similar happen to my tank when I added driftwood... Really freaked me out :nilly:

It is completely possible to provide thorough filtration using DIY sump(s)... it's just a matter of setting them up right and using the right media...
