i use to have sand in my tank but i took it out and replaced it with gravel.. but now one of my aquaclear110 filters isnt working.. i tried spinning the thing manually and it sounds like sand got in there... any suggestions?.. it turns on and hums.. just doesnt move or suck in water..

Did you fill it with water prior to turning it on?
Is the intake tube in the right position?
If those two things are good, then check the impeller. You may need a new one, they aren't that expensive and I believe that most Petsmarts carry replacements.

You can take off the pump by twisting it to about 90 degrees. You can then take off the impeller and remove any sand or particle inside. Then just put everything back together.

i got the impeller (black part) off the filter by twisting it.. now is there a way to open that too????
