I just purchased 10 4-6" bagarius yarelli and they are breathing very heavy. Does any one know of a way I can get them to slow their breathing. I have them in a 33L gallon tank with a maxi jet 900 pump and a huge airstone. The guy I got them from told me to saturate the tank with oxygen. Despite their heavy breathing they are eating like champs on frozen blood worms. I have only had them for 2 days and I have already lost one. Any suggestions?

Your tank is wayyyyyyyyyyy to small for 10 of this species. What kind of filter are you using??? Add some stress coat to your tank then get a bigger tank or get rid of some of these fish. Something I just thought of and seem's a bit stupid but I'm drunk so I'll throw it out there anyway is to add a drop or two of clove oil to the tank. Clove oil is a anesthesia for fish. If they go belly up it DOES NOT mean they're dead just very very relaxed. This will definently slow their breathing and in a few minutes they should right themselves and return to normal. I wouldn't do it though. So I guess I'm saying don't do anything I say. The end

I agree with ihob on the over crowding and repeat his question about filtration. Is the power head just moving water or is it powering a filter? Do you have a filter at all?
That many fish that size need a minimum of a 55g tank and that is just today, they get bigger fast, of the 4 species of genus bagarius the smallest is the crocodile/suchus cat and it gets to more than 30"s in less than 2 years, the goonch and the devil cat both get more than 6' long. The yarelli is the one called goonch in a couple years or so it will be almost as big as the one in this picture from a German language site by Dharma. Right now they are producing urea and waste in ammounts that require great biological filtration or they will die. Until you put these things in seperate large tanks I think you need to do daily water changes of at least 50%.

These guys need to be kept btw 65-73 degrees. Is your temp to high? When i got my bag (as a bonus) I didnt have a tank with a lower temp and put him into a 79 degree tank and he was breathing quickly until I got him into lower temps.
