HI. this is my first post on mfk. im new to this website but not to fish. I am considering getting an indo pacific tarpon (from aquascape), and i need to know what water conditions they need. also, if anybody has kept tarpon before, what would be some good tankmates. Thanks.
The last pacific Tarpon I saw was 3 feet at the Boston Aquarium
Good tankmates include hogfish and other 2 foot-3 foot fish.
Good water conditions would be standard for a SW keeper going for a tank of the required size for this fish. pH 8.3
tend to be a bit skittish at first, eat just about anything, and prefer harder water. tankmates would be anything that doesnt fit in thier mouths and doesnt mind fast moving fish.
expect relatively fast growth (depending on food availability) and the need for a very large system in the near future
There brackish water fish, put ALOT of AQURIUM SALT & you will be fine.
Tank Mate: Archer Fish, Jardini, Murry Cod, Datnoid Tiger Fish, Pleco's are hardy they can stand almost anything, that's about all I can think of right now.
I've had my tarpon close to a year now and it hasn't grown that much. I keep it at pH about 7.0 with some aquarium salt. Seems to be doing ok and feeds well although is a little skittish.
