My favorite fish are dropping one at a time!!!
Ive lost an Altolamprologus, a Venustus and a Labidichromus all in a matter of a couple of weeks from each other.
Their symptoms are as follows:
Flushed full of color, I mean BRIGHT. Normally that would be good right?
Not eating.
Breathing very rapidly.
This goes on for a few days and the fish either dies from exhaustion or ??
Now, one of my Frontosas (4") is showing the same signs.
HELP!!!
It has been suggested that my scorpion fish(aka three spine toad fish) has stung them.
They are being attacked by??? Dont have any overly aggresive fish other than the 13" Oscar...but it cant catch them in all the rock work.
Gill parasites? Gut parasites?

My tank is 210g. 0-amonia, 0-nitrite, 10-nitrate, 7.8ph, 82.5F. Sand substrate, excellent circulation with power heads, air and eheim canisters.
Tank mates are, 13"oscar, 13"sailfin plec, 10"common plec, 20 or so Africans including frotosas, 6"scorpion fish, 5" rtb loach and seven 1"-2"Salveni.
Please help if you can with suggestions.
No visable signs of parasites or trama other than the over vibrant color and gasping....

The gasping sounds like low oxygen in the water or chlorine burn on the gills. Don't know what over bright color would be. In people high CO2 levels can make the skin flush. I would try getting better surface agitation for better gas exchange.

I suggest taking out the scorpion fish if you suspect his the culprit stinging your other fish in a separate tank for the time being, also remove the frontosa that is showing signs and put him in a different tank. Now observe your main tank if the other fish in there shows symptom. If not then it's not the scorpion fish doing. Sherlock Holmes fish detective! lol
