Ok so I have a 40 gallon tank setup for Tang. i've had 2 frontosas in there for about 5 months. We added a Yellow Calvus later on and they lived together great for about 2 months. I moved to a new apt. got most of the water with me and the fish were fine. We then decided to add another calvus to the bunch. We added the black calvus and all hell broke loose both the calvuses started to jolt around the tank and sink to the bottom and continue to lay on their sides until they died. I check all the levels and got all the kits ive needed for an african tank. I've asked tons of people whats wrong my frontosas are fine. We soon then got a white calvus and she did the exact same thing. ALL MY LEVELS are fine I just can't stand to take another fish back or watch another fish die. Someone please help me!!!

#1) Get the frontosa out of there.

Are you aware these fish grow upwards of 16" each? That means they should be in nothing less than 100gal tank. Having 2 in a 40gal tank is insane.

You claim your water is fine, but until you show me some exact number for pH, GH, KH, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites, I'm going to say its your water.

pH is not the only water quality measurement. Ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are far more important. So, as I said, until you post up those numbers, I'm saying its your water.

Ammonia levels are at 0ppm, Nitrate was 20, the Nitrite was 0.0, the chlorine was 0ppm, my ph was 7.5 my water hardness is around 150 - 300ppm and the phosphate was a 10.0ppm. What I don't understand is that we have a empty 10 gallon downstaris with the exact same levels and the fish survive in it and it actually has a ph of 6.0 cause we had some angels in it at one time. I really don't know what the hell is going on with my 40 gallon

Calvus are sensitive to water parameters.

I would suggest a pH over 7.8, preferably 8.4 - 8.6

GH should be around 14

KH should be around 16

Use Rift Lake Salts to increase GH and KH and/or utilize crushed coral as a substrate or filter media.
