columbus, oh
im thinkin about getting a 110 gal tank and i want to know what could i put in there with a mantis shrimp? im new to this whole sw thing so i need all the help i can get!.... i saw a mantis at the lfs but idk if its a peacock and they couldnt tell me it was $30 does that sound about right? if not i found one online at http://www.pets-warehouse.com for $5. what all would i need and how should i set it up?

I am not a salt water keeper but mantis shrimp do best is smaller species tanks as they are not good tank mates with anything to small to eat them.

ya a large peacock will probably kill any tankmate you put in there with him, ive read somewhere that some angles, clowns, and damels might be able to be kept with one but i wouldn;t put any money on it, so if you thinkin of getting a mantis i would say that you should put him in his own tank, and keep the 110g for everything else

its a efficient predator,if your gonna look at its anatomy the mantis is fully armed and dangerous...i see them as a zergling:headbang2

I keep mine in a 15g tank. If you really want one then get a 15-20g just for him & use the 110 for something else. Waste of a huge tank.

bingo, smaller tank with nothing else you don't want eaten. make sure you determine if it is a smasher or spearer. smashers are going to do better with fish but not crabs or shrimp. spearers will eat most anything but can usually get along with some snails and smaller crabs.

You can keep corals in there though & make it a nice nano.
