ok already have a green terror tank and a 6ft piranha tank, and need stock ideas for a 55g in my living room. nothing in it right now, but i dont know what to get. im contemplating possibly a cichlid tank or maybe even trying saltwater. just looking for something that looks good and i prefer a few larger fish than a bunch of little fish. colorful is good, and my girlfriend hates "creepy fish" any ideas would be great THANKS!

I'm not big on parrots.. ugly lookin fish IMO.. if you were gonna go with a breeding pair i'd go firemouths instead of convicts - does ur GF consider bichirs and knife fish creepy? Cuz if not i'd get 2 sens an ABK and an african leaf fish - heavily planted 
It would be pushing it but I would get a pair of Blue gene Jack demseys
I would paint the back of the tank black andHave some natural tone river as substrate , some nice driftwood some Nice FAKE plants siliconed on to the driftwood or onto some larger stone decorations to keep them from pulling them up all the time ..
As long as you keep up on your water changes I think it would work and look pretty nice
