I have one open 20 gallon.I was thinking of putting a syno in but I would like other ideas too. I was thinking a fancy bichir but I do not know much about them. So can you tell me types? But the fish has to be low maintenence and be able to live in 7 ph and 76 degrees or less.

a bichir is too big for that tank, but what about some Synodontis nigriventris and african butterfly fish, that would be an interesting display

red eyed puffer, dwarf puffer, some exodons.

plant it and stock it with snails, shrimp and plants... if nothing else theres a good chance that one of these days you will end up with something that likes to eat snails and shrimp...

maybe throw a few otos in there and stick it near a window.... its nice having a quiet easy to care for tank sometimes...

How big a tank does a armored bichir need? So even by itself in a 20 gallon long it can't live. But if you can tell me about very interesting looking species and their specifications.

So even by itself I couldn't stick in a armored bichir in a 20 gallon long. But I would like to know of other interesting looking bichirs and their specifications.

how about a few tiger barbs and black tetras, and maybe an angelicus cat.
The tiger barbs will simply nip the black skirts constantly. A spacious aquarium is required for tiger barbs to avoid them from harassing other tankmates.

That will not work in a 20g. Bear in mind, the puffers and exodons are not compatible, not even in a large tank if water chemistry aside from behavior is the issue.

What species of bichir exactly do you plan to keep? A 20g might work for the time being however it will not work in the long run. The smallest bichir you can get will grow to 12 inches and it's really a tight fit for a 20g.

i meant one of those three, either one red eyed puffer, three dwarf puffers, or about 6 exodons
