where can i get a list of native/temperate fish (aside form goldfish) that i am allowed to keep in an aquarium, and alowed to import to my house, or even a store?

Contact your local DNR for a list of restricted native species, and to find out the law on keeping natives in your area.

Your DNR is where you can get find out about your state's laws.

What state are you in? The only laws I personally know about are Ohio and Missouri.

Generally speaking.....You're allowed to keep (keep at home in an aquarium) any fish that isn't on the prohibited species list. But as said above, each state is different and you really should contact your state DNR. There is a difference in collecting your own fish and buying/trading them and keeping them at home. Most sport fish have restrictions on how you collect so be sure and follow the rules. In some cases home kept sport fish (like sunfish) will count against your legal limit. Lots of funky laws on the books but a phone call should clear things up as long as you ask the right questions.

Hey Dan, What fish are you thinking of keeping? I would think if you called the Minstry of Fish And Game they could tell you no problem

Dan,

I just assumed you lived in the United States. My above post was based on that idea and is misleading in your case. Canada has very strict laws about native fish and live possession. You should certainly contact your Ministry of Natural Resources and see what's allowed.

alright, ill probably make a call or 2, lol, i was on the mnr sight, and couldnt find anything, its just such a pain, there serch engine sucks the big one. if rather just get a list, as opposed to calling. o well

Better to get it straight from the authorities, although sometimes the answers you get can be inconsistent.
