try some pieces of Manzanita Wood. instead of bogwood which generally comes as pieces, manzanita comes in branches. its normally used for birds to perch on. Gonna has it in his tank, it looks really good.

boss its the tank with the convicts that just wont die :)

I embedded mine in a foam/cement background, which holds it in place under water.

However, if your not doing a foam/cement background you should just be able to weigh it down with something heavy, and eventually it will become waterlogged and stay down on it's own.

If it's smaller pieces (Or if you have access to a huge pot for larger pieces), you can boil them beforehand to leech out some tannins and also help the wood to absorb some water so it gets waterlogged quicker.

can i tie the branches together at the top to give it a more root stucture like look
i dont see why not, but just FYI if you turn manzanita branches upside down, they look very similar to mangrove roots. If you get a few big branches, and put them in the tank with the widest parts at the top, it will look an awful lot like mangroves.
