I work at a chain store, not that it matters because this is everywhere i'm sure. Where in the history of fishkeeping did the need for "cleaner, sucker, algae eating" fish come along? I'm always.....always telling customers they dont "need" one. The common plec has to be one of the most exploited fish on the market IMO.
I love the "seen the light" look on the faces of customers who just learned that since their tank has no algae why would they think need one?
At that why would they pick out a fish that would otherwise grow too large for their tank when there are other options.
Even better, those that claim they dont have to do any maintenance because the "cleaner" fish takes care of it.
