One of my African cichlids died on Monday from what I believe was bloat.
Symptoms:hiding, not eating, white stringy poop, rapid breathing . I checked water parameters they were ph=7.4 temp=82 ammonia=0 nitrate=20 ppm. I picked up paraguard from my Lfs on Sunday and used according to directions on Sunday and Monday. I cleaned and did a water change on monday. Not long after my fish died.
All of the other fish appear to be fine swimming around and interested in food, etc. I have been feeding them very lightly since monday. I ordered clout b/c I thought I might need something stronger and I couldn't find any info about paraguard. My issue is I want to treat the rest of the fish. My quarantine tank isn't cycled yet. Im leaving to go out of town for the weekend and most of the treatments I've seen have about six days to treat. Should I do a three day treatment and then again when I return? Or should I wait til I return? I'm afraid if I don't do anything before I leave I'm going to worried about it all weekend or that they will get sick while I'm away.
Also another issue im having is about removing the carbon filters. Will my tank become uncycled? My filters have the carbon inside the fiber part.. Should I cut it into two pieces and leave the fiber piece? I appreciate any advice you guys have for me...I just want to do this right so I don't lose anymore fish. Thanks!
