Here's the 8x3x2 i build about a week ago. Its about 250 gallons. Its 70% full.

I need to come up with a filter system with what i have. I want to make it out of a 5 gallon bucket but i think thats going to be to small. Right now im doing daily water changes to keep the levels down just in case. I have the 5 gallon bucket submerged. I have some of the old filter media from the tank this replaced. I put a pillow case over the bucket to keep any leaves or juck out. I have a pump rated at 600 gallons per hour. What can i do to make the a effective filter?

Remove it, your better off with an external filter of any sorts over a pillow case?

Can you just replace it with a decent canister? Your in FX5 territory?

Im not against moving the bucket outside. I couldnt get the overflow to work right. Thats why im asking for help

mmmr mmr mmmmr cough sigh! OI
any easy option is to have a big storage container the same height as the pond/tank (if you are lucky)
and have a U pipe between the two and the pump in the storage container.
i also dont think a pillow case will be a good filter (hint you need more foam)

if u have the filter above the water just put a 3'' hole in the bottom covered with matala or similar then foam or poly of your chose / if in the water start with 1 bucket full of holes any pattern then cut out another bucket almost completely leaving the top 4'' n bottom of the bucket leaving 3 legs attaching the top to the bottom, cover the 2nd bucket with poly bond material then slip it into the first bucket thenput in the pump

Ok, i need to use the pump to put water in the bucket and let it overflow? Kinda lost, and thanks

i was talking of 2 different filters the 1st is out of the water with the hole at the bottom a piece of matala n what i use is a 5''wide piece of poly bond filter pad probably 4-5' rolled up n sat on top of the matala then pump the water thru a hole in the lid i used bulkheads for the holes +another matala

When I looked at your tank, I thought “Waterfall”.
Wood or rock hiding an overhead filter would really look good.

I like where you are going with this.
