I need some fish help

So in about a week i will be starting up my 150gallon and 55gallon tanks.. for the 150gallon tank i was going to get a florida gar.. and im wondering about care for it and what other fish people reccomend to put with it to make the tank a beautiful tank.. i was also wondering based on experience about what would be a cool predatory fish that can live its life in the 55gallon tank.. any suggestions are much appreciated. thanks

i also forgot.. both are freshwater...but was wondering how much it would also cost to set up the 55 as a saltwater tank if i ended up wanting to do that instead

Before you buy anything do some research, not just ask questions here read up as much as you can about the species you want to keep. Anything you can't find on your own, ask away.

Best thing i can tell you about what you want to keep is, if possible, go to a local fish store or petstore that carries fish and just look, maybe take notes on the fish that interest you.

haha oh believe me i have done research on the florida gar for the last month. not much on the internet as you would think..still somewhat good information and was just hoping to get some experience from people who have or had one
