I need some help with doviis

Long story short i got a 65 gallon fish tank with stand filter lights ect on craigslist for 25$ sweet deal. As a bday present my friend gave me a 8 inch dovii hes very shy in the 65 gallon, a month later he gives me a 4 inch female dovii ever since i put her in the tank he has been trying to kill her i know the tank is small but i really dont want to give him up and im just a kid and cant afford a bigger tank are there any methods for them to get along or pair up? Right now the female is in the 65 while im holding the dovii in a 2 ft long 15inch wide plastic box i guess you can say with filter and gravel. I really want these guys to get along im open to any ideas

IMO its not to small to breed them I bred my Dovii's in a 40g. You need to add some rocks make some caves some places for the female to hide out and get away from the male. When I bred them I had my male first then got a female put them together in the 40 and she spawned 1 week later. I suggest keeping the female in there first with all the rocks and caves and some smooth flat rocks for possible spawning sites. Let her get used to the tank first for a week then add the male.
 
hmm I would suggest getting smaller fish . The male will definitely kill the female in that small tank
