I came home last night to fine my light in my tank. Luckily it was off. I have a colony of Keyni juvis in the tank. I set the lights out to dry. This morning I turned it back on. It lit up and then, I'm guessing, it blew. Keyni like a darker tank anyway. How long can they go without direct light before it hurts them? They get some light from each tank on either side.

For the most part fish can go almost indefinately w/o direct lighting. they might not be too happy about it but it surely wont kill them. dont forget that sometimes in the wild fish have to go for long periods without light, and some african species prefer darker waters due to the fact that they inhabit deeper waters. just keep up with your water changes and monitor water quality to make sure your biological filtration is still working. Still however id recommend you get a new light asap if only for aesthetic reasons.

heh and remember some of these fish actually live in such muddy/clowdy water that you can't even see any light anyways.

Most of the fish live at a depth of 5-25m. They don't get direct light down at that depth. Some live as far down as 40m. The only reason why we give them artificial lighting is so we can see them better. Keep your tank light off for a couple of days, so you sort of get used to it, then switch it on one day and see the difference.:naughty::ROFL::headbang2:nilly:
