Hello, I have a 120 gallon freshwater aquarium going very strong! What i want to do is replace the tank with a 170 gallon tank with the same front to back diamention, and the same length, with a tank that is about 7 inches taller. This tank needs the front panel replaced due to chips and clairity. If anyone out there could give me some tips on this endevore, it would be greatly appreciared!
Thanks,
Nick

Pics would be helpful. Does the tank have some kind of bracing like plastic around the top and bottom? Is there a center piece of glass bracing the front and back?

Honestly ya gota ask your self is it worth it? That's a small tank. I just saw a 180 on CL that supposedly holds water has a stand and a light for $200. I bet you can get $50 for your tank easy so for $150 you have a 180 gallon tank.......for example. Not sure where your from but here in Phoenix short sales, bankruptcies, and foreclosures are a boom for the used fish tanks market :D

Anyway to change out that glass I use a straight edge razor in a vice grip pliers and cut the old silicon from the inside and the outside of the tank. Once the glass is free, pull it off and discard. I use silicon 1 from HD and glue the new panel on. Then I "euro brace" the top and bottom to hold it together. Unless your original bracing can be reused, if so, just put that back on. This process is a PITA! and is not worth it unless your looking to save a few hundred bucks. Or you want a star-fire type (perfectly clear low iron) glass panel.
Good luck and take some pictures :)

Hello, I have seen tanks on craiglist for cheap also, but this tank sold me bye having the same dimensions as mine but just a Little bit taller. What are the chances of finding another tank with these diamention again on craigslist? Not good! So to me, it's way worth it! I am going to use star fire glass on the front and one regular peace on the side. The tank dose have a plastic frame that glues to the top and bottom. It dose have 2 peaces of glass holding the front to the back. I would like to replace the frame with a new one also, but I'm not sure where to get it... I will get pictures of it up on the site later today.
