I need ideas on what to put in my new tank. I have a 125 with pool filter sand and Wet dry filter. Right now I have a pictus cat, 2 small cons and a synodontis catfish. I will be putting my 7" JD in soon too. Let me know what you think would make nice additions to this setup.:D

Thanks

id personally keep the pictus, ditch the cichlids, and get bichirs

Think SINGLE, BREEDING PAIR, COLONY or SCHOOLING, or COMMUNITY....A 125 is an ideal size to get anyone started off into Monsters....

Single:
Red Deivl or Midas
Arowana

Breeding pair...Starting off with 5-7 growouts(2-5 inches):
Oscars
Severums
Pretty much any cichlid found at your local PetSmart for beginners

Colony or Schooling:
Piranha
Silver Dollar

Community:
Congo Tetra
Saber-Tooth Tetra

These off the top choices I threw up are really vague....I have "Species Tank" when I was thinking of these fish....DO NOT MIX...

If I put a small aro in, would it be suitable with the catfish,JD and cons?

No species of aro stays small enough to live in a 125 for life. Jardini's need at least a 180 and do not tolerate tankmates real well. Silvers need at least 240-300g and get too large to be viable tankmates for your fish.

I will agree with the bichir suggestion above though. :D They are not extremely aggressive (except polypterus ornatipinnis in some cases) but will attempt to eat anything that is close to fitting in its mouth. I say close because my senegal just recently shredded and killed a tankmate that was too large to be eaten... not for lack of trying though.

this is my opionion KEEP the cichlids and get maybe a gt but thats my opinion since my gt isnt a killing type its aggressive but it hasnt killed anything that wasnt sopossed to be killed
